The Queen's Diamond Jubilee 2012

To
mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place
in 2012 during an extended weekend  on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th June.
The government had agreed to grant an additional bank holiday on
Tuesday 5 June to provide a focal point for the celebrations. In
addition, the traditional Bank Holiday at the end of May will, in 2012,
be moved to 4 June to make it a four day weekend.
Following the great success of the Royal Wedding celebrations, a
committee is being formed to organise events in Sambourne to celebrate
this momentous event. Two residents have already volunteered to start
things moving. Anyone wishing to be involved should  contact the
Parish Council.

Greg Duddy of Sambourne kindly volunteered to capture the celebrations
for the website. To see his superb work follow

Speed Limits

Until
the early 1990s, the entire village was re-restricted. Since then the
inner area of the village was reduced to 40 mph.
The speed limits in the village were reviewed in a scheme implemented
by Traffic Group at Warwick County Council which became enforceable on
15th February 2010.
The new limits and the subsequent introduction of 50 mph in Jill Lane
has produced a strange situation - travelling from Astwood Band traffic
lights to Sambourne no fewer than five different limits are
encountered. These are 30, 50, de-restricted, 40 and finally 30 mph.
The distance involved is less than a mile! This anomalous situation is
still being discussed with Traffic Group.
We are fortunate to be visited occasionally by police with radar
equipment to enforce the limits. Invariably several drivers are booked.
Logging equipment - the twin black tubes across the road - is
deployed
at least twice annually and we have  access to the data. There are
two sites which seem to be used:  Middletown Lane (halfway up the
hill leading to The White House) and Sambourne Lane (between the Church
Hall and Perrymill crossroads). There is also a single set of data is
available for Whitemoor Lane  (C38).
The results are quite worrying.
Middletown Lane (C38 )and Sambourne Lane (D5208)
- Speeds are well above 30 mph .
- Peak two-way flow rates are about 200 vehicles
per hour.

- Daily flows are 1700+ and 1300+ vehicles.
    Whitemoor Lane  (C38)
- Speeds are well above 30 mph .
- Peak two-way flow rates are over 500 vehicles per hour.

- Daily flows are 2600 vehicles
Time for action so why not help?
The situation is far from satisfactory as the combination of speed and
volume represent a major hazard to pedestrians, cyclists and horse
riders. The Parish Council continues to push County Council for
remedial measures. We need to make drivers avoid Sambourne and reduce
the attractiveness of the village as a rat-run. We have the support of
Nadim Zahawi the local MP who has actually seen the situation for
himself.
Community speed watch helps -
why don't you volunteer and help resolve this problem which affects
everyone in the village.

 Neighbourhood
Watch
Neighbourhood
Watch
Many people are keen to re-form Neighbourhood Watch in the village.
It was decided at the July meeting of the Parish Council that the
scheme should be encouraged and previously active members will be
contacted.
This site replaces the facility provided by Warwick
County Council - the Warwickshire Communities system. We would like to
say thank you for this excellent service. This site is owned by
Sambourne Parish Council and will be developed over time. If you are
interested in
making a contribution please
contact us.
